Info
The classic geodesic mountain tent shape refined with Gothic Arch porches and clever design touches; the Vango Hurricane 300 is a roomy base camp tent that's reliable and strong.
Colour coded Powerlite aluminium alloy poles slide through the low profile pole sleeves to quickly create a stable weatherproof structure for shelter from the elements. The pole tension can be fine-tuned once the tent is up, allowing you to adjust the tent if the weather changes. The breathable inner is suspended inside, and the whole tent can be collapsed, packed and pitched as-one or split between 3 to share the load.
The Protex 300 flysheet is coated with silicon elastomer for improved strength and UV light resistance, so you can be sure it will perform over repeated expeditions. The groundsheet is made from a durable nylon fabric that's waterproof to 5000mm. Fly and groundsheet seams are taped for maximum waterproof protection.
There's plenty of storage space all round; the porches have gothic-style peaks for better headroom, and inside the inner there are mesh pockets and a removable gear loft for keeping small items close to hand.
The inner tent doors are half-mesh with covers so you can ventilate as much or little as you need without letting bugs in, while flysheet vents at the sides ensure good air flow between the inner and outer - reducing condensation.
If you also have the separate footprint you can pitch the Hurricane 300 without the inner tent to create a lightweight waterproof shelter for 3 - great for extended lunch stops or summer bivvies.

ok, I have the Hurricane 200, not this 300. It is simply the best tent I have ever owned. Possibly the best tent I've ever been in. The 200 is a 2 man tent, but its very roomy. Twice the space of my Banshee. Although, it is also much heavier. I would not be happy with it in my rucksack - and even shared between 2 it would be on the heavy side. But it could be a 3 man tent to be honest, it has loads of space, so this 300 version must be a palace. It has loads of features, the full length pocket down each side of the tent, great for storage. Doors at both ends. The doors have a few ways of opening too which is great for cooking in the porch area, with just the top of the door open to let out steam & heat, without letting in cold, rain, snow, wind etc...
Its amazingly stable. The poles are flush with the tent so the wind just washes over it. The shape is perfect in any weather. You would be safe in this tent in the worst of storms.
Quite simply, it is superb. A top class tent, but it is a little heavy.

Excellent mountain tent, 05 July 2011

I bought this tent as a sturdy mountain tent, and it has more than done it's job.
It is very easy to pitch on your own, but even easier with two of you. It is especially good that you can pitch the inner and outer together, or separately as well.
This tent is very sturdy in strong winds, and the lip on the inner is useful when it's snowy and wet.
The doors on either side are also very useful as an entrance on one side, and a cooking area in the other. The pockets all the way down the inner, and the 'hammock' for kit in the roof of the inner is really good for small pieces of kit. The canvas is also very strong.
The inner is especially spacious for 3, compared to some of Vango's other tents.
Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase, though it's a little heavy and a bit too over-speced/expensive for DofE.
