A simply-pitched tunnel tent with a built-in sun shelter.
The Vango Eos 550SC is a 4-pole tunnel tent with generous sleeping space and a large, functional porch area with ample room for your camping essentials.
Pitched quickly and easily (outer first) thanks to the colour coded poles, it's a spacious and comfortable weekend tent that's ideal for slightly longer trips.
The pre-attached sun canopy*, extending from the front, lets you relax in the shade and enjoy the outdoors in comfort.
- ProTex 70 Denier polyester flysheet - highly waterproof, durable and reliable fabric
- PE groundsheet - robust and hardwearing to stand up to the rigours of the most active of campers
- Breathable polyester inner tent- allows condensation to pass through
- Linked-In groundsheet - all the comfort of a fully sewn in groundsheet, but can be rolled away, and is easier to clean
- Large 'Diamond Clear' PVC windows for maximum light and great visibility
- Colour Coded Poles for intuitive pitching
- Guy lines at optimum positions for stability and tension, with handy guy line holders
- Conveniently positioned inner tent pockets for your snacks, torches or electronics
- Fully fire retardant fabric - European EN5912 safety standard
- Reflective webbing - pegging points are easily visible in darkness
- Comes with oversized carry bag (50% more volume) to make packing away easier
- Lantern hanging point in the living area or inner tent

Vango's patented 'TBS ®II' Tension Band System ensures that your tent performs in adverse conditions, especially strong, changeable winds (in calm conditions the system can be disconnected). The bands brace the pole and prevent sideways movement.
*Please note that the canopy is pre-attached and you aren't able to pitch the tent without it.

Good in good weather, bad in bad, 16 August 2016
By Annie Heslop (Lancashire)
Brought this tent with lots of optimismism but unfortunately it hasn't lived up to our expectations.
We have already brought 2 replacement poles after the snapping in windy conditions (15mph) and have now just lost another. As others have said if the canopy is rolled up there is no central guy rope to secure the tent. We have only been on 5 trips and those with no wind at all have been fine. It's a nice tent if you can guarantee putting it up with no wind. Not easy in the UK summer!!
A total waste of money!, 01 July 2016

We purchased this tent last summer and looked forward to having many happy family holidays in our new tent. We set out on our annual weekend trip to the coast with our brand new tent. The day after pitching the tent was put in the skip at the campsite. We had some very windy weather but this tent was not up to task! It ripped and the poles snapped and fractured so badly that we could not put it back in our car to return the tent! I was absolutely devastated! Will never buy this type of tent again!
A good tent, but built to a price, 15 March 2016
This could be a fabulous tent! In fact for the price it IS a fabulous tent, with just one or two provisos.
In its favour:
- dead easy to pitch,
- It's light and airy,
- loads of room for a small family or two old duffers with a ridiculously large airbed like us,
- the built-in sun shelter is great when it's dry (see bad bits below).
- It's surprisingly waterproof for such a light fabric, we were expecting a little water ingress but there was none, despite the weather's best efforts!
- I like the porch, though I have a gripe about that too,
- It's very good value.....
And that's also its major downfall!
It's quite obvious that Go Outdoors has said to vango: "we want a name brand, family tent that we can sell for x pounds". And vango have gone away and costed it and realised that they can only make this tent if they use fabric they found at the back of the warehouse, used only their blind, three-fingered machinists to sew it, and most importantly, employed no quality control whatsoever (or, more likely just outsourced it to some cheapo factory in the 3rd world)! The result is a slightly flawed tent that vango should be a little wary of putting their name to: ours was so badly sewn you couldn't open the side door.
There are also one or two issues with the porch collecting water (because it can't be tensioned) then dumping said water into the doorway, or merely dripping it in steadily.
There are other issues with cheapness of some fittings and lack of storage, but minor enough.
However despite these gripes, I can't help but like this tent; if you can live with its foibles (which, if you can't afford anything else, then you surely can), then you get a great deal of tent for your money!
If you're going cheap because you want a taste of camping , then it shouldn't put you off, or if it's all you can afford, it'll certainly do until you either can afford better, or your family grows out of it. Its certainly better than the no-named tents that certain cycle/carparts shops sell.
Vango eos 550 SC, 31 October 2015

Buyer beware! This tent seemed like a real bargain, however in moderate windy conditions the tent (which would appear to have a design fault, although Vango have denied this) does not perform adequately and in our experience the front tent pole snapped. Please look carefully at the picture. With the canopy up this acts as a sail in moderate winds and the advice is to take the canopy down and roll it up and there are loops to tie it in above the door. However the canopy has a central guy rope, and when you tie it up, the next pole does not. Other incarnations of the 550 tent (eg EOS 550 Beta) have a central guy which stops the front of the tent flapping about in the wind. The EOS 550 SC does not. This means in a moderate wind the tent front bends excessively, held by 2 guys that are place too low down to prevent breakage of the pole. We contacted Vango about this and they did not want to know. There is a tension band system which they say 'System ensures that your tent performs in adverse conditions, especially strong, changeable winds,' When asked about this they said the EOS 550SC is a 'fair weather tent' not designed for adverse conditions.
The argument continued for some time.
Can I just say that this review does not reflect on any way on the staff at Go Outdoors (Coatbridge) The problem lies with Vango putting out a tent with what appears to be a design flaw that they refuse to accept. Please look at pictures of the 550 Beta and 550 SC with the canopy rolled up before you buy this tent
Some good but more bad, 08 September 2015
By Ray (South Yorkshire)
Since the kids grew up and we moved away from our large frame tent, my wife & I have had many good years of camping in a 4 man tunnel tent. Recently decided I needed something with a little more head room, saw this in Go Outdoors and decided to take the plunge. Not the most auspicious of starts when we did a practice pitch in the garden and one of the elastics used to hold up the front flap came off in my hand, no real pressure applied, from what I could see hadn't been finished off properly. Took it back to Go Outdoors who were very helpful, but couldn't replace it as they had no stock, tried another local store with no joy, offered to send away for repair but couldn't guarantee having it back in time for our camping trip, so agreed to do our own temporary repair and arrange a proper repair afterwards.
Arrived at the campsite and successfully pitched the tent in windy/rainy conditions. Following morning found one of the tension straps had come detached (again looked like not finished off properly - wasn't overtightened), worrying as this was supposed to provide extra stability. Later on found the elastic holding the middle front down had also snapped (fortunately I have a bag of miscellaneous spares accumulated over the years and was able to secure the front). Given the reviews was concerned about the canopy, but as stated the design doesn't provide guy ropes to secure the tent front if you take down the canopy. Following day found 2 of the canopy poles had split and we had to secure the canopy down using thin pegs through the eyelets used to attach the guy ropes to the canopy, this held the canopy down although didn't look particularly elegant. On the good side the tent is quite roomy and despite the rain remained dry. Would only recommend this tent if you could guarantee camping in perfect conditions (impossible in the UK).
