All the essential outdoor functions to help you navigate your way through the wilder parts of the world.
The award-winning Suunto Core sports watch uses it's many features to gather a range of data to help you navigate your way through the wilder parts of the world.
The altimeter features a range up to 9000m (29 500 ft), making it ideally suited for any activities where knowing your altitude and ascent and descent rates is essential. The Core altimeter lets you track your progress in terms of altitude climbed, while the log recorder stores all your movements in altitude between the start and stop times, so you can re-live your trip at home - view graphs of altitude changes during your treks, find out how much you climbed, the duration of your ascents and descents, your average ascent and descent speed, and more.
The Suunto Core displays the current sea level pressure as a detailed graph, showing a recording of the last 24 hours with a recording interval of 30 minutes. The weather trend indicator is a useful feature which provides quick reference to check upcoming weather conditions. The storm alarm notifies you of a sudden drop in air pressure, which could help you foresee worsening weather.
The Suunto Core also sports an Automatic Alti/Baro switch, which senses your movement or lack thereof, switching between altimeter and barometer accordingly. When you’re climbing, it records changes in elevation, and if you stop to rest, it records changes in barometric pressure. (A drop in air pressure while you’re sleeping outdoors will be recorded as a change in barometric pressure, not altitude.)
The digital compass displays the cardinal or half-cardinal point and the North, with a declination adjustment function that allows you to correct the difference between the true North and magnetic North. You can also set it to track a certain bearing, which helps you follow a chosen direction in the terrain. It features a rotating bezel for traditional use (most variants), or a one-touch function that allows you to sight lock and follow a bearing.
The Suunto Core's depth meter provides information on current depth and the maximum depth reached during your snorkeling dive. The maximum depth of the device is 10m (32,8 ft).
And don't forget, it's a watch too! The Suunto Core's watch functions include time, dual time, date, alarm, sports chronograph, countdown timer and predicted times for sunrise and sunset for over 400 locations worldwide.

All round beast, 05 June 2014

Haven't had this watch overly long but got it as a replacement for a G Shock, and I couldn't be happier.
After my G Shock broke repeatedly, I moved onto this. I knew mates in the Marines and the army had this watch and rated it highly! Couldn't be more pleased.
P.s turn the storm alarm off!! Such a waste of time

Suunto Core All Black, 21 April 2012

As a quick read, i am very pleased with this watch and would recommend it to those wanting a robust ABC watch.
As already discussed the display is not the brightest, I suggest you see it before you buy. Personally I have no problem with it. The backlight works well at night and can be changed to coming on on any button press. I have had the watch for a few weeks and am very pleased with it. The glass face is very resisitant to scratching, the altimeter and barometer function work well, once you have set your reference (altitude or sea level pressure) value it works well, I have been able to follow weather reports within 1 or 2mb. The watch has a storm warning, so as long as you are not changing altitude too it can give you a warning on consistent lowering of barometric pressure, a good one for overnight camps seeing whats in store for the next morning.
The log function records readings of either altitude or pressure and I have used it on a couple of commutes (altitude) and its fun to look back over the data. Of course the data stays on the watch and cannot be loaded off it.
I have found the compass is a bit fiddly, for best use, you should slowly rotate it while flat (about 15 seconds per 360 rotation)2 to 3 times to calibrate it, I have also found it not to be the most accurate, great for general directions, but I would not want to navigate by it in the hills / mounatins.
The strap is a bit plasticy and can be a bit fiddly to get off, but minor niggles to a very useful watch.
