I like the way Silva has positioned the scales on the base plate which enable me to make measurements with dividers quickly. Also the increments of ten easily allow me to further divide those squares into increments of ten to obtain more accurate six figure grid references. A well thought out base plate compass.

I found this to be a good mid-range compass for hill & mountain walking. The long sides and central magnifying section made taking bearings off a map an easy task even in full-on Scottish winter conditions. The red housing ring also made it easy to set a bearing whilst wearing gloves. The two scales were adequate for the corresponding maps just a shame there isn’t a 1:40,000 scale as well.
