I like it a lot but it is quite tricky to read the bearing in degrees.

You could say its an old friend, I have been using the military specification compass with mils since my early teens, its a more accurate method over degrees but you still get them in the inner circle.
If you are not familiar with the mils, then this isnt the compass for you (though you shouldnt be afraid to use mils if you wanted to).
It comes with 3 scales, its a very good compass and I would recommend any of the silva range for navigation, just note that if you are going globe trotting, you will need a compass specific to the hemisphere, ie northern, southern or equatorial.
I also agree with Si about the first review, there is no difference in taking a bearing in mils to degrees, its just that mils are more accurate.
Top Compass, 30 June 2010
This is a top quallity compass for the competent user, using the Mils system (6400 in a circle) which is more accurate than the standard 360 Degree compass, hence the military use it, unfortunatly the previous reviewer did not seem to have a clue what he was on about.
Does include a standard scale within the bezel as a reference for those not used to using Mils.

This is not the compass you want. The outside ring has a second world war 64 scale around it which is no use for taking a bearing. It does have an inside scale with the normal 360 degrees but these are too small to read accurately.
