Features

A wind resistant hooded fleece for the ultimate in warmth and protection.

Designed for warmth during winter climbs, autumn expeditions and early spring adventures, the Rab Shadow Hoodie gives wind resistance and excellent coverage without bulk.

At 640g this isn't as light as some fleeces, and it doesn't have the waterproofing of a hardshell, yet the Shadow manages to pack in the best of both worlds, and a variety of features that make it suited to almost any climate.

Polartec Wind Pro® provides wind-resistant and water-resistant protection, with maximum stretch and movement. As it doesn't use a membrane, it's  incredibly breathable but still 4 times more wind-resistant than standard fleece - so perfect for active pursuits in all conditions.

The helmet compatible hood allows water to bead off, and the cut ensures you can climb without the Shadow getting in the way of your harness.

With a hemmed drawcord to seal in heat, the Shadow has the full potential to become your shadow this season - stuck on you, wherever you go.

  • 'Hardshell' technology
  • Abrasion resistant
  • Fits under a harness
  • Inbuilt hood, Lycra cuffs, thumb loops, double exit hem draw cord
  • Low bulk seams
  • Medium cut

Rab Hoodie, 01 August 2014
By Kimba
I have been using my hoodie for almost a year now. Have trekked the Inka Trail, hiked several times in GB and used it while climbing in Iceland. It was perfect for all conditions, as either a middle or outer layer. It keeps fairly dry in light rain although it does get wet in heavy rain. Even so it stays warm. I don't normally recommend clothes to others, but this hoodie is really great.

First Rab Product I have bought, 06 February 2014
By MAB (Bedford)
This is the the first Rab product I have purchased and it won't be the last. The fit is perfect and is so comfortable that wear it all the time. It has just the right level of breathability and windproofing so you stay warm and dry all day no matter what the activity. Wearing the hood up with my Montane beanie over the top keeps me really cosy. Great product

Stitching fault?, 07 December 2013
By Andy (Edinburgh)
Purchased as good looking and very comfortable but stitching are around Lycra cuffs (both sides) came away within the week. Returned to store for replacement and same fault within 2 days. Rab need to consider strengthening this section. Swapped in store for Bergaus alternative. No Lycra cuff so should not suffer same fault.

Store staff were excellent handling it.

Quality fleece, 26 October 2013
By Simon (Nottingham)
I wanted a good quality fleece and researched several before buying this and don’t regret it at all. It’s a great mid-layer top which is light and warm when you’re walking. This is a fleece not a down jacket, though, so when standing still for a long time then I found myself getting cold and needing an extra layer. However, I’ve used it on several long walks recently and been on some very windy hills and was very surprised and pleased how well it protected from the gusts and kept me warm while moving along with just a base layer underneath. The hood is what tipped me towards the Rab over some other fleeces and, again, it’s great at protecting you from the wind. Definitely recommended.

Highly recommended - Light weight, Very warm, 19 September 2013
By Steve (Berkshire)
I was nervous about paying this amount of money for a hoody, but it’s well worth every single penny, I’d give it 10 stars if I could! It is a snug fit, but lightweight and extremely warm. I wore this in April last year on a 2 week trek through the Himalayas to Mount Everest base camp. There was a significant temperature change from start to finish. But even at base camp in the ice field, I wore this hoody over a thin breathable base layer and didn’t require a jacket on top. I felt warm and comfortable and because it’s not bulky, it’s easy to wear a rucksack over the top. I had a lot of comments from others while there asking if I was freezing cold because everyone else had a lot of layers and thick padded jackets which added bulk and slowed them down. The simple fact is with a correct layering system using top rated products like this made from quality material is perfectly sufficient. I highly recommend this hoodie, you really do get what you pay for in this case.
