RAB Electron jacket, 11 January 2017
By Spike the climber (ESSEX)
RAB Electron Jacket WOW this jacket is superb. Having converted from a down jkt to Thinsulate ME Fitzroy, thinking this was the answer I was a little disappointed with the warmth of the synthetic jkt.
So started looking at Down again.
Choose the RAB Electron, this jkt is simply superb, the cut, style and quality are fantastic.
I like the fact that compared to the Rab Alpine micro light this is so much warmer with a better quality down more of it and wider baffles which all mean extra warmth, with very little extra weight. This jacket is superb value for money and an excellent choice. Any negatives nothing that's too bad the hood volume adjuster flap is a bit primitive and the flap inside the jacket for securing the hood if rolled into a collar is a waste of time. Overall a good technical jkt with good fit and warmth
Recommended midweight jacket, 13 December 2016
By Greg (NW Greece)
As light as a mid weight jacket could get and still be practical and durable. It is very light and remarkably packable for the warmth it provides. Furthermore the Pertex Endurance outer fabric is windproof so no need to throw something over it to boost warmth. It is also rip stop which is a major advantage for a down jacket. Quality is of course high as expected from Rab. Two draw cords at hem. Two cinch cords at the front of the hood, a Velcro tab at rear, to adjust the height of the hood. As much as I hate elasticated cuffs and prefer Velcro instead, I must admit that this particular design is spot on. An elongated elasticated neopren-type fabric thoughtfully sewn at the end of the cuffs, combines practicality, low bulk and good looks. What I did not like is the lack of micro fleece lining inside the hand pockets. Also due to the positioning of the hand pocket openings, when forgotten open, they have a tendency to somehow pop open and allows inside heat to escape. A cold spot will be felt so make sure you keep them closed.
- Ripstop outer Pertex Endurance fabric, windproof as well.
- Drop at back protects when leaning over.
- exceptionally smooth working zips, Vislon YKK. Baffle inside.
- neopren type elasticated cuffs
- two way adjustable hood
- good looks with varying baffle widths.
- very good fit.
- No outer chest pocket, but you will be knowing that before you purchase the jacket.
- No micro fleece lining inside the hand pockets.
- No allowance to forget hand pocket openings open.
Pros & Cons:
- Velcro tab at rear of the hood adjusts the height of the hood peak but it’s range is somehow limited. However it is preferable to a cinch cord tightener because of it’s minimal bulk: If need to sleep with the jacket on, it will not be felt behind your head.
- Wire peak hood protrusion will protect from snowdrift, rain or sun, but not that practical while wearing it around camp.
- zip secured inside pocket but small sized.
Tested at winter camp site with -3C, proved quite warm while wearing underneath a mid weight fleece and a warm baselayer.
The extra Velcro tab on the inside just behind the neck, is meant to extent over the collar and pack down the bulk of the hood. No such need for that for a mountaineer but might be useful for someone wearing it around town.
A cylindrical shaped stuff sack is provided, measuring 16x23, will easily fit the jacket inside. Has a grab tab at rear and cinch cord at opening.
Medium size 2016 mk, weighs 475 with stuff sack.

I have purchased recently a Rab Electron jacket.
The product is very very good and fits as it is. No bulky at all. Great color and very light. The customer service is great and the delivery from the shop was very very fast. As always the best shop to buy winter clothes. This was my second time and i will buy again and again.

Working at GO I'm lucky to have a great range to pick from and I'm a bit of a sucker for jackets. Have to say thought this Rab Electron has been my winter go-to jacket.
Windproof, light, looks good, and most importantly has just the right amount of insulation to keep you warm through any British winter. I've got 3 other Rab down jackets but I must have worn this one 90% of the time as it's just the most versatile whatever the conditions. Perfect for day to day winter wear as well.

Fantastic, 02 November 2016

We'll, that's that then, this one item fills all the gaps left in my wardrobe of kit and replaces a couple of others too.
Extremely light for the warmth this jacket provides. Draw chords in all the right places, cinch down and sink in when the wind rises and the temperature drops, relaxed fit for cold mornings around the campsite or at the Crag and perfect for the early morning pre surf check.
I love the elasticated cuffs, really nice touch. The slightly longer back is a treat when leaning over to cook at camp and the stuff sack is a perfect size for a micro pillow.
I am 6'3 and I bought this in a large and it fits (just comfortably enough) under my mammut Lunan Pro (size medium) for any very cold and very wet static days out in the open.
The Velcro hood expansion is a bit daft, but it works... the flappy Velcro flap behind the coat hanging strap on the other hand? I've already cut it off, just too annoying, especially when belaying.
Fantastic jacket, fantastic price, just well... fantastic really. 5*
