Info
The Rab Baltoro Guide Jacket is ideal for extreme climates and extreme sports. Tested for durability in the areas of Alpine climbing, trekking, mountain walking as well as polar exploration, it has all you need to battle the elements.
Made as a winter weight jacket with high loft pile backed Polartec Power Shield fabric, it is a protective softshell with the assets of being water resistant, wind resistant and very breathable.
Lots of handy pockets keep your essentials at your fingertips, and the hem drawcord and adjustable cuffs keep you sealed in and comfortable as you trek.
The Baltoro Guide Softshell performs at its best when layered with a microfleece underneath, or with a waterproof layer over the top. Because of this design, the Baltoro fits quite snugly, so you can afford to go one size up. (This is especially true if you have a thicker fleece you tend to favour for outdoor pursuits. )
The Baltoro has a warming core, and the Powershield design lends itself really well to the temperatures seen on downhill journeys and mountain descents, whereas you may need more ventilation if you intend to use the Baltoro for both skiing and walking/climbing trips.
However, the versatile shape and fabric allows you to control much of the heat circulated, making the Baltoro Softshell a great choice if you want a 'do it all' year round jacket.
The Rab Baltoro Jacket is the ideal weight and design to keep you comfy in a range of conditions, whether you're crossing the Peaks or walking the dog.

A great soft-shell.., 08 May 2011

a great hood, arms long enough to be able to climb in, top notch wind resistance, warm and comfortable.
Pockets are well situated to be usuable while wearing a pack, and the jacket is cut short enough to prevent being caught up and becoming uncomfortable when belaying.
And it looks pretty cool ;)

Absolutely amazing!, 30 January 2010

I was looking for a mid/outer layer jacket for a winter mountaineering trip to Scotland. After looking at the Vapour Rise Jacket and others like this I picked up this. I was informed in the shop that it was highly water resistant but not waterproof.
I wore this jacket all day in 30mph winds at about -6C with a Rab mid layer and thermal top underneath and I was not cold at all as Ii never felt the wind and the perfectly shaped hood kept it out of my face too.
I spent the day learning how to do ice axe arrests and other technques which meant sliding down snowy slopes in the jacket, i felt comfortable and i was always confident the material would withhold the strain which it did comfortably. The jacket soaked up some moisture but none of this managed to get through to the inside. Also at times I had to wear a helmet, the hood was perfectly shaped to my head beforehand and when I put the helmet on it still fitted perfectly.
Basically this jacket is well worth the money and if I lost this I would definitely buy another one straight away.
