Great Boots, 05 November 2011
By Fitzydan (Pontefract)
I've had these boots for 2 years now after spending some serious time researching prior to purchasing. I've used them in the Lake District mountains and the Dales and in the snow in all seasons. These perform very well, no issues with the build quality at all. Waterproof and comfy and fit pretty well - i would say that though I tried them with winter walking socks on, there still seems a little room at the toe which gives me a bit of toe hammer now and again when going downhill. They've stood up to everything I've thrown at them (flat trails, mountains, snow) and are still going strong.

Great Boots, 03 December 2010

I oringinally wanted the ML S3, but even the bxx was too narrow! Was a bit dubious about getting fabric boots, but these are excellent. Sturdy, well padded, confortable, light and very well made. They are a 2-3 season boot though , but a pair of sealskinz sorts it.

not the boot they used to be, 07 April 2010

I've had several pairs of these over the last few years (I can trash a pair in a year, often, with no problem), and would happily have given them five stars until last year. However, since the design changed slightly last year, I have had three pairs (yes, THREE) where the uppermost suede loop holding the laces had worn through and broken where it is stitched on the inside.
Yes, they are extremely comfortable for me, I love them, but the quality seems to have taken a dive someplace. I have the third pair ready to return, and will be trying for a credit note so I can get some Asolo to try. Until they fix this quality issue, avoid at all costs.

Scarpa ZG65 XCR boots, 29 January 2010

Scarpa ZG65 XCR boots
I was looking for a lightweight boot that had a sole tough enough to provide grip and foot placements when scrambling. The Scarpa looked like a good option to try. They certainly are light, being about the same weight as my Salomon Revos but the uppers on the Scarpas look like they would take more abuse. The stiff sole unit and aggresive lug patterns certainly seem to take rocky stuff in their stride and I’ve used these boots scrambling up Cneiffon arête in Snowdonia. The sole is stiff enough to stand on small foot holds and you don’t feel the rocks and stones, on say rough descents, like you might with lighter boots.
Having a Gore Tex lining means that although they have fabric rather than leather uppers they still offer excellent waterproof protection. In my opinion waterproof liners don’t seem to make boots more sweaty than if they don’t have a liner (good socks are needed though). Although the liners do seem to wear out and leak after a fair bit of use.
My only real gripe is that they aren’t as comfortable as other boots I use. The padding on the foot bed is very unforgiving so a decent inner sole is needed if you’ve got delicate feet like me. This can lead to problems if the heel is raised up by the inner sole as it can move the heel out of the space provided for this part of the foot in the boot. The fit is also quite narrow which is good for scrambling if it’s good for your own foot size.
All in all if it fits your foot and you find them comfortable enough then they are superb boots for year round use on trails and scrambles too.
