Value for money??? No!, 10 January 2012
By OllyBin (Sandy Beds)
I bought two pairs of these socks - they felt good, but the wool quality is not strong enough to withstand heavy chafing from some shoes and I found the wool shrinks and the heels wore out after two/three uses. I suspect they will be ok to use for dress shoe type wear. If your thinking of serious walking then you’d be better off going for a higher quality pair - Icebreaker, Brasher, Smartwool or some such, which will probably cost three/four times as much but will last 50 times longer.

I've gone through quite a few pairs of these socks. While i enjoy them when new - very comfy, soft and warm.., they do wear through the heel very quickly. I use them in my work boots for 12hrs a day so they do take a lot of abuse!

you get wha you pay for, 01 November 2011
By Dbarmbs (Lincoln)
I bought 5 pairs of theses last Dec 2010 based on the reviews up to that point.
All 5 pairs are heading for the bin 1 at a time and i'm down to my last pair.
Every sock has come apart at the heel as described in other reviews here.
0 stars for this product. Buy Bridgedale in future, they have lasted 6 years and counting of treking, scrambling and year round mountaineering.

Bought three pairs of these for my trip walking around Mt Blanc. Handled uphill and downhill without problems and kept my feet in good condition. Will buy more

West Highland Way proof sock at value price, 13 May 2011
By Jaymeister (Edinburgh)
These are by far the best value walking socks I've bought. I wore them to do the 96 miles of the West Highland Way and found they keep your feet cool when its hot and hot when its cold. This helps prevent blisters which was another plus and after washing them they are like new. For info I was wearing lightweight Salomon technical walking boots with Goretex lining which complimented the socks perfectly.

Initially I thought these were good value, 11 May 2011
By Chris B (West Yorkshire)
At first I thought these socks to be a bargain. However although I am heavy on my feet in what I felt to be quite a short space of time I managed to wear a hole around the toes.
i used these to help prevent my central heating boiler overflow pipe from freezing in December which helped a bit!
Frankly not that great a product but then I reamin unimpressed with most so called walking socks.

Lousy construction, 15 January 2011
By MartynJ (Sheffield)
Great the first couple of times you wear them, then the heel wool rolls off the mesh base construction in no time. They were ready for the bin after being worn between 10 and 20 times. In contrast, the GoOutdoors Coolmax socks are pretty good value for money.

Shrunk!, 08 January 2011
By Martin (Harlow)
For walking I use a proper walking sock, for every day wear I use the go outdoors coolmax sock which is great, used them for years, I bought these merino socks because they where on offer and they shrunk in the wash! To about half size! Every thing gets washed the same way for me, that includes my smart wool walking socks every thing else is ok!

Could be great but not there yet!, 08 January 2011
By Lazarus (West Yorkshire)
I bought a couple of pairs of these merino explorer socks in the sale for the winter months and they are really good! They don't itch at all, are really noticibly warm around the house and even out in the bitter cold so from that point of view... great! But... the big let down for me is that they aren't quite elasticated enough around the top of the socks to hold themselves up; they keep dropping down and it gets really frustrating having to pull them up all the time! One other thing is they are a little bit short and could do with being about an inch taller on the leg. If they could change this they would be perfect.

merino Socks, 28 December 2010
By Susie Thomas (Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees)
I bought my first pair after a friend recommended them to me. I have to say they are fantastic and keep my feet lovely and warm. I’ve been wearing them a lot just recently due to the cold and snowy weather we have been having and they are fantastic. I have even been wearing them around the house, if my feet are warm then I feel warm too. I would happily recommend these socks to anyone and everyone, and as a thank you to my friend I bought him a couple of pairs for Christmas.

warm and comfortable, 24 December 2010
By Elaineyg (Norwich)
Good warm socks. Walked many miles without problems rubbing my feet, the only down side is I have had 2 pairs wear though the heel now, with regular but not excessive use. I paid only £2.99 for them on promo a couple of years back.

These socks rock., 22 November 2010
By gypsyj (kirkcaldy)
I bought these socks as I was having problems keeping my feet warm but not any more. They keep my feet warm but not too warm and they are great for walking distance.

Great but check the wool content on the back., 28 October 2010
By vfr800Essex (Essex)
Have 4 pairs of these now but you need to check that you get the ones with 72% wool and not 30ish%. Saw these both on the same rack and they all looked the same...if only. Very warm and they allow my feet breath easier when using Gore-Tex lines boots. Be careful when pulling on because the grey top can be a little fragile if you have dagger like nails.

aaaahhhhhh Merino!, 09 October 2010
By shavez (Yorkshire)
These socks are so warm and for merino very cheap! Not sure wether they are 100% Merino but they carry all the benefits if not! They do rub up and go bobbly very quickley but this does not detract away from the job they are intended to do!!!! My other high end brand socks hardley see the light of day nowadays! Great Product, Great Price, VERY WARM FEET!!!!!
