Not for persistent rain, 17 January 2012
By al_mac (Holmbridge)
I bought this jacket to wear on long runs in bad weather. The wind proofing in excellent for exposed tops but it cannot cope with more than 30mins of heavy drizzle. Disappointing! Other than that i find the hood excellent and the pockets great for venting, although don't put anything in them you want to keep dry. Overall the weather protection is ok for the weight of the jacket but not the price.

Great looks poor extreme performance, 27 December 2011

I Have worn this jacket on a few walks throughout Cumbria and the peak district. Works well in light rain and is very wind proof. I have however just done a winter walk on Bowfell in extreme wet weather. Put my mobile in the breast pocket thinking it was the driest place. Unfortunately the pockets filled with water and acted like a balloon. Phone completely broken. As previous reviewer has stated the pockets have a severe design floor. Expensive jacket when you have to replace your phone as well.

Disappointing Jacket, 07 December 2011

Considering the price you spend on a good waterproof, you would expect it to be just that. This jacket unfortunately is not. I have used this jacket for a winter climbing season in scotland as well as all other conditions walking and climbing throughout the UK and have been let down again and again even with Nikwax reproofing . Saying that, I loved the fit and look of the jacket, great if you're only using it for a day trip up Snowdon, for anything more prepare to get wet.
Great Jacket - lousy pockets., 23 November 2011

I got my jacket in March. The body and hood work well. However, two hikes in heavy rain and the pockets leaked badly. Filled up completely with rain. A major design flaw, very disappointing!!!!

I have taken this great jacket on two treks in Snowdonia. The first day was heavy rain, and 70-80 mph winds. I made an attempt on Pen Yr Olwen from Lynn Ogwen, in order to get to Carnedd Llwelyn. At the 900 m level the wind was dangerous, and the rain was like being hosed down. But the jacket held up to what ever was thrown at it.
The hood is awesome, easily the best I've used, and seen on any mountain jacket.
The only downside with the jacket is the front pockets, water will find its way into them paticularly in those conditions, as it did on my trek. The best thing to do is to place any objects you dont want to get wet into the internal pockets. Rab do give a warning of this with the jacket.
Apart from that, the jacket kept me warm and dry,'without boiling in the bag' - thanks to it's 3 layer event fabric, through out two days of fantastic trekking. Well done Rab!

I have had three of these in under six months and they have all failed where the taped seems have peeled away on the inside especially near the top of the zip. While Rab's customer service has been excellent in the Latok remains flawed

Superb jacket, bought this a month ago and have worn it in some extreme wet conditions.
No water gets through and your sweat is released thanks to the event fabric.

I have a reputation that I can break anything and have had often ripped through clothing within the first outing, I have had this jacket for 4 years now and it still going. It has seen some use, from standing at the bottom of a crag for several hours on end watching groups belay in the pouring rain to general out and about wear. The fabric is tough and the style good. It is not as waterproof now - even after treatment but it is still my main jacket. The only downside I found was the hood, when not wearing a helmet the fitting of the hood and top of the zip can get in the way, with a helmet on it is ace!

Great lightweight jacket with a great cut long enough but not overly long, i have not had any problems with with having water in the pockets i always make shure they are fully up and the zips pushed up in its little hanger thing, the hood has great adjustabillity and the high neck line protects the face from driving rain. In all a great jacket from a uk company 5*

Brilliant travelling jacket, 20 May 2011

I bought this jacket 18 months ago as I was going travelling round the world and wanted a good waterproof to take with me. !8 months later ive been to Russia, China, SE Asia, pacific islands, Australia, and New Zealand. This jackets been put through temperatures ranging from -30 to +30 (degrees c), its seen monsoonal rains and some freezing winds. Its the only thing left in my backpack that i originally left home with, everything else has been replaced over the course of 18 months of abuse. Except this jacket. Its awesome, buy it.

Great jacket, 12 May 2011

This has to be the best waterproof jacket I have ever had and I’ve had a few in over 20 years of climbing and walking. Most have been Berghaus or Mountain Equipment and they have just not been as robust. It’s long enough to keep your bum dry without being too baggy. They’re nothing worse than getting to the top a hill when it’s blowing a gale and feeling like you’re a shirt in a tumble dryer. But it’s not too tight around the waist and shoulders that you can still wave your arms about.

Rab Men's Latok Alpine Waterproof Jacket, 12 April 2011

I bought my Wife a Rab Men's Latok Alpine Waterproof Jacket over 12 months ago and she has loved it, in fact she never stops wearing it. On this reccomend I decided to purchace one for myself. The Rab Men's Latok Alpine Waterproof Jacket had to be good as I normaly wear Mountain Equipment, Paramo and Jack Wolf Skin, well Rab has a great jacket.
The build quality is superb, the cut is not too fitted which allows for freedom and also you don;t over heat and end up damp. Pockets are a good size and the velcro cuffs keeps the elements out, the waterproof ness and breatherbility is second to non.The jacket is as compact as a pack light but has a much sronger build quality. The jacket does not cheep but well worth every penny. i am sure it will give many years of sevice.

Awesome Jacket, 29 November 2010
By Andrew (Tyne and Wear)
The 3 layer event fabric is in my oppion better than any gore tex or hyvent etc fabric on the market today thats why the latok out performes any other jacket. Extremely waterproof, breathable, no condensation, quick drying, don't sweat as much as you do with any other fabric, when you do start sweating the event fabric wiks away the sweat instently. So don't hesistate buying a Rab Latok Alpine just buy it.

Bought this recently from Go Outdoors in Bristol. Used it a few times now and took it for a weekend walking in the Brecons. Good piece of kit, nice and light and packable for those "shall I, shan't I pack a coat" days. In use it was great at blocking the wind and with the use of 3 layer Event I found it much more breathable than my other jacket (2 layer Gore Tex performance shell). No problems with condensation. Good hood with excellent adjustment. The pockets are well placed and well sized with good access which is not affected by a rucksack waist belt. Really impressive bit of kit for the price.

Hardwaring climbing waterproof, 31 January 2010
By Hewin (Shropshire)
I've used this jacket for trail running, bothy trips to Scotland, ice climbing in Wales and alpine climbing and it performs well in all situations but it really excels for climbing. Personally I run hot and normally only wear a dry fit top under the Latok unless I'm stationary. No jacket will keep you dry if you are in the pouring rain in Scotland for many hours, but Event fabric in my experience is better than GoreTex and HyVent. The cut of the jacket is perfect for climbing in terms of both harness fit and reach/flexibility in the jacket. It takes a helmet perfectly and the pockets and draw strings are all simple and well thought out and therefore easy to use with gloves. The jacket is very hardwaring and I've tested this scrambling and climbing in it. It's not the lightest coat in the world, so it isn't the best for running in but that said there are plenty worse! In short if you want a hardwaring mountain waterproof for climbing you can do a lot worse. One note: eVent fabric works best when its clean so wash regularly with Grangers or Nikwax.
