You won't regret having bladders over bottles., 30 July 2011

I use bladders over water bottles and canteens and platypus is one of the more flexible types of bladder which is compatible with most filtration and carrier hoses.
They hold varying capacities and are much lighter than aluminium or even plastic bottles, and compressible. Which saves on pack space.
But the one thing I LOVE about bladders is, I can boil the water, fill them up and use them as hot water bottles during freezing nights to warm up my sleeping bag.
Just make sure not to get them too hot, you don't want to weaken the plastic casing.
Plus nothing better than having on the go accessible water without having to reach for your water pouch to get to it.

I brought this to go in my rucksack for walking but I have found it so useful for taking with me when walking round show grounds and even putting on a hook by the bed this year when I broke my elbow so I could still get a drink while laying down.
I have frozen it so I get cold water through the long hot summer days and it has worked well just don’t fill it right up so the ice can expand.
The only thing it lacks is a cover over the end of the pipe and if you take your rucksack off and lay it down the end that goes in your mouth can end up on the floor not very hygienic.
