Excellent for 18 months, but I wouldn't buy again!, 02 February 2012
By Sooty (Somerset)
I used my Burma Pro for 18 months of comfort and dry feet with daily walks in the countryside. I walk at least an hour a day, whatever the weather, with my dog and the Burma Pro is an excellent boot. Unfortunately, the grey midsole (?) - the grey spongey bit between the Vibram sole and the actual boot - has peeled in the foot arch and now lets in water creating a squelching sound when walking (despite my feet still being dry!). This has happened on both boots requiring me to buy a new pair.
I understand that I use my boots a lot more than the average weekend hiker, but these boots aren't cheap and I expected more.
I now have some Meindl Makalu (I've owned these for 18 months) and these are a great boot (without the spongey mid-sole problem) but are perhaps a bit heavy for day to day walking. My next choice of Meindl boot will be the Vakuum GTX. My friend has a pair of these and they seem to be just the ticket for a not-too-heavy, but sturdy and reliable, daily use leather hiking boot.

Bought these boots for general outdoor walking and a lot of dog walking up and down hills. Really impressed with how comfy and warm my feet are even when ploughing through boggy cold fields. The boots and rugged, have great ankle support and fit my large wide feet. I have to get some that were half a size bigger than my normal shoes to accommodate walking socks etc. First pair of proper walking boots so don't have anything to compare them against but they seem ace!

Unlucky?, 05 January 2012

Bought these boots after a walk in torrid, wet conditions resulting in wet feet for all apart from the guy wearing these boots. No higher recommendation! Bought mine from Go Outdoors using their price match- result. Wore for a gentle but wet 10 miler in Weardale on New Years Day. One foot ended up soaking. Upon cleaning I noticed the sole had separated from the boot just after the toepiece, about an inch along. Returned to GO for a no quibble refund as didn't have a replacement pair in stock and ordering service is suspended during sale. I would consider these boots again because of the superb quality, comfort and service from Go Outdoors. I've heard that Meindl's customer service is excellent so I would feel safe purchasing again once stocks are available. I will review again after getting to know the boots properly (fingers crossed!).

The Best Boot, 01 January 2012
By Pathfinder Bushcraft (London)
Have had these for 5yrs now and cannot fault them. The wearing in period was really fast so comfortable. Worn aboard in various climates and conditions and found no issues. Recommend a good clean after hard use. Condition them twice a year on good mileage. Have only just replaced laces and inner soles. The best boot I've ever had.

Returning my 4rd pair of Burma Pro's in 22 months (NOT TO GO-Outdoors, i must stress that, another shop, but wanted to get the word out). Same problem on all 4 pairs. Leather cracks and fails across the toes, and at least 2 of the pairs have seen initial separation of the sole to the upper where it meets the front of the boot. Followed Sports Wax application instructions and boot care as advised by Bramwell, but didn't make a difference. I do cover a fairly large mileage (1000 per year), but these boots should have lasted.
Shame, as i liked the boots, but can't justify them when they keep failing every few months.

i was advised on these boots through go outdoors store staff with the view of climbing ben nevis, they were alot more than i wanted pay but as a novis i took there advise, thees boots lived upto more than there expectations, after the 8 hour climb/walk in all weathers , rain, blizzrad , snow my feet were bone dry even walking ankle deep through mountain streams, they were that good i even wore them the same night in the pub for me tea!

I purchased these a few weeks ago, as a sturdy pair of boots to wear all day long whilst doing photography in all weathers. This is my first time to purchase Meindl, as I usually go for scarpa. On previous occasions when trying Meindl, I found them really uncomfortable, and they creased obove my toes, causing pain. HOWEVER, this time the fit is perfect. I have never had such a comfortable pair of boots in 30+ years of hillwalking etc.I can even wear them with only a thin liner sock....they are that comfortable. These regularly get worn for 12 hours + a day, and are as comfortable as a pair of slippers. Would I buy another pair, oh yes indeed. Will be picking up another pair next week as a spare, they are that good !

I bought these boots a few months ago and saved the money as they were out of my price bracket, however since wearing them on a regular basis and walk up to 15 miles regularly on each walk, I have found they do nothing but absolutely kill two of my toes in my left foot after usually about two hours of walking, this has never happened with any other walking boots I have had and am gutted I have paid all this money to know that I am going to be in pain for most of my walks, I am planning to do the three peaks Yorkshire challenge soon but will have to get some new boots to do this as the walk is approx 25 miles and my foot won't stand up to it, will not buy this make again am extremely disappointed.

100% recommend for these boots. They are sturdy, light, flexible and extremely comfy. Perfect for attaching crampons for glacier walking, perfect for rock climbing and for simply walking. Have used for work on a building site, and also for everyday use. I would definitely buy this product again.

The most important thing about walking boots is that they fit your feet snugly and are comfortable. All feet are different, so I can't give an unequivocal recommendation to everyone
Assuming these boots do fit your feet then I whole heartedly recommend them. Well built, very comfortable after hours of walking and totally waterproof.
GoOutdoors is probably the best price you'll find as well.

one of many fantasic offers bought at Go Outdoors. Bought these boots earlier this year following an operation on my foot to remove a damaged nerve, i got them to replace a pair i'd used for a number of years and i thought they were comfortable but these are like wearing slippers, i have friends who use Meindl boots and they rate them too. i look forward to wearing them everytime we go out. :0)

I do a lot of hillwalking, in rough terrain, as part of my job so I needed a really tough pair of boots. I bought these in March, and have been wearing them every day for the last 8 weeks. My feet remain dry at the end of every day, they provide excellent support, and I've had no problem with blisters. These are the best boots I've owned, and are still good value at the current price. Buy them!

Bought these boots at the beginning of the year to replace a cheaper pair of hi-tecs, which after completing Hellvellyn in, left my feet in agony!
Tried these on in the shop, no problems, wore them around the house, no bother. Thought there would atleast be a slight breaking in period of uncomfortability!
However, after 5 quite easy walks Ive decided to give up on them as they are just too narrow for my wide and awkward feet! Ive had pins and needles in the toes, hotspots on the balls of my feet and dull aches in the soles throughout the walks! Ive gone 1.5 sizes bigger than my normal footwear also, so its definately the slimmer width of the boot which doesnt work for me.
As a boot though, im gutted! The burma is a stiff, rugged and hardwearing boot. Well made, good sole and the leather upper coupled with goretex lining kept my foot bone dry after submerging fully whilst crossing a river!
All in all, a quality boot but not for the wider foot unfortunately!

Blister free, 14 January 2011
By Derichleau (Manchester)
I've been hillwalking regularly for about seven years but I've had problems with blisters and have come to accept them. I bought these beauties at Christmas for £129 - with the price match, after trying them on at Blacks first. I went into Blacks today to get some tech-wash and they're still selling them for £175.
Went out for a 11 mile hike in them shortly after Christmas and it's the first time ever that I have been blister free - particularly with a new pair of boots. I still had plasters on my heels, a pair of 1000 mile socks and my boots and we were up and down hill a fair bit and not even a twinge of a blister. So I've over the moon with them.
Good grip too!

I have the pair of these for 3years now. The only problem I came across is, the boots are tiring me after 4 days of walking. This is due to my slightly wider feet, so it`s my problem, not the boots` itself.
The boots are 4seasons really. In the winter days it protects superbly from frozen ground feeling comfort at all times. Gosh, I literary have smile on my face knowing how well protected my feet are:) Moreover, are made in a clever way you feel the boots are extension of your legs. During summer days, feeling is also right, however hotter days may find your feet a bit dump from sweat to certain extent(don`t forget you`re not wearing a sandal).
The thing I love in the boots is their waterproof characteristics. Standing in a cold spring during summer may only cool your feet, but you should never notice any `leaks`. Adding that on top of good grip makes a fantastic boots. One more thing to mention is that I naturally have a tendency to twist my ankles. I`m happy to notice in these boots it`s not the case.
From downsides, I don`t like too much the feeling after 4/5days of mountain walking. The outer sides of my toes are kind of squeezed and I have blisters on my arch. Regardless of that fact the boots are and will be my 1st or 2nd choice. The 2nd only because I wish to know if it`s possible to have anything better than these ones.

I'm just about too put these boot's through their first real test this weekend in the lakes ,after having owned and been breaking them in for the last 2 month's.Other than a bit of stiffness in the leather and a few other adjustments(i.e the rather unsupportive insoles !!) they have been superb!! The padding and support is excellent and the "rolling" heel action makes for good walking posture !! In conclusion an all round classic from meindl .

I tried almost every pair of boots in the shop. The Meindl Burma Pros were the last and most expensive. As soon as I put them on I groaned, because they felt so good and I knew had to have them.
I went on training hikes for the next five months leading up to a backpacking tour of Cornwall. The only trouble I had was from the first hike and it was my own fault. After that, I laced the boots in the way that had been recommended and they have been perfect ever since. I've walked hundreds of miles and spent last weekend in the mud and rain with perfectly dry, comfortable feet. I just need to clean them up now!

Really really good., 26 February 2010

Meindl is pretty much a guarantee for great boots. The quality of manufacturing is fantastic and needs no further words. What I like in particular about these is the MFS system. It basically is some type of high-tech foam which uses the body heat to mould itself to the shape of the foot. This results in a pretty much perfect fit and reduces blisters - in fact, I never had any in my Meindl's!
I would recommend taking good care of them though. I try to give them a polishing after every use.

These boots are fantastic. I've done many many miles in the Lakes in these and they've never let me down. Never had a blister and never had wet feet. I was even tempted to buy a spare pair they are so good, but decided not to as i think my first pair will last so long it would be a waste.
Burma Pro, Awesome, 15 February 2010

Had my Burma Pro's for a few years also and must say they are the best walking boots I've owned. Great support, comfy, waterproof and built to last. Often up to my ankles in mud, still keep my feet dry and a quick rinse and they are looking great again.
Money well spent as I can see these lasting for many years to come.
