I’ve never really socks seriously – I’ve put up with cheapo thermals and thin cotton-mix and presumed they’ll do. But I’m fed up with having perpetually cold toes, and when the chance of walking in a wintrous Scotland arose I realised I had to find something that worked. Bridgdale Women’s Endurance Trekker socks have been the answer.

I learnt that winter walking is technical stuff – rigid boots and crampons are required for all that ice and snow. Experienced walkers all advised me to make sure the boots were comfortable – the fit is all important, and part of this is getting the right socks. Not too thick, not too thin, not ribbed and no seams in places that can rub - and a good fit themselves: no bulges or creases.

Bridgdale Trekkers ticked all the boxes both on paper and on the snow slopes of Scotland. They have flat toe seams, are a smooth knit, and the added lycra around the ankle and instep stops any ‘rucking’ in the boot. The mix of new wool and Isofil make the socks both soft and easily washable. My new sky-blue trekkers kept my feet beautifully warm and comfortable all day long. My feet survived the ordeal of walking up a mountain and were just weary, not assaulted at the end of it. Undoubtedly good value for money.
