These are superbly comfortable walking/trekking boots, 09 January 2012
By OllyBin (Sandy)
I bought these as an emergency replacement having discovered the sole on my favourite boots were disintegrating as packed to commence 140 miles of La Camino Frances in September 2011.
Internet reports suggested these boots would be comfortable and I can confirm this to be the case. From day one (on the aeroplane) they fitted like a glove and continued to do so throughout the seven days of walking and the rest of the holiday too. This route has a mixture of rough steep stony paths, some soft forest paths and some hard roads. The weather was in the upper 20C/low 30C and I was carrying a 14kg backpack too so breath-ability was essential. In all situations the boots were comfortable and cool and offered great support to the ankles when needed. Whilst others who travelled the same route struggled with severe blisters, I didn’t even have a single hot spot. Amazingly my feet were in better condition when I finished the pilgrimage than when I started. This is largely due to the boots, but I also maintain that using a clean pairs of Bridgedale Men's Coolmax Liner Socks and a high quality Icebreaker Merino wool outer socks each day helped stop any blistering. But carefully washing and drying my feet and treating them to a light massage with Vaseline each evening before putting on the next day’s clean pair of Coolmax liner socks to allow the Vaseline to sink into the skin, helped to improve the general condition of my feet.

The boots are almost like new even though I’ve worn the boots many times, on typically 10-mile walks, since and they now feel cozzy and light - almost feel like slippers – each time I wear them.

Excellant walking boots, 01 November 2011

I have had these for nearly a year, I wear these daily during the Winter months, very comfy, keeps feet warm and dry. No breaking in required. Highly recommended to all.

Excellent Boot, 17 October 2011
By Andy
Don't buy anything else unless you specifically need technical alpine boots; you will not find a better all-rounder! My last pair of Explorers lasted over 5 of brutal abuse.
Required a little breaking-in (a few hours) but only because of my mangled climber's feet.
Read a few reviews complaining about the waterproofing; I've forded rivers in mine and never had damp socks. Also heard about problems with grip; this is nonsense! Recently did the Three Peaks, and by the top of Snowdon some of the group had picked up injuries; my friend and I loaded the injured onto the train and ran back down. Wearing these boots I was confident of every step; the only time I slipped was when the loose ground gave way, and the Explorers got me down to Llanberis in under 45 minutes- hardly a record for the mountain but not bad in the wet, wearing boots and carrying 40L packs!
I have, and will, always recommend these boots.

Fit like slippers - Grip like a motorbike on a wet diesel spillage!, 07 August 2011
By Pars (Wirral)
Bought my second pair of these in June as my first pair lasted for years, were by far the most comfortable boot I've ever worn, and used to have superb grip in all conditions. Tried a new pair on and straight away they felt like the exact same fit, bought them tried a few walks of average grades and was a bit concerned by the lack of grip, did the Glyders range on a perfect sunny day and had quiet a few moments due to slipping, completed the Oggie 8 in them yesterday and have no idea how as once the rain came in I had zereo grip on wet rock, leaving me with no confidence in each step I took. My friends had no issues what so ever, these boots are about to packed up and sent back to Berghaus as I am truly appalled by how deadly they are in wet conditions, dont care if I dont get a refund at least I wont be maiming myself on the side of a mountain and having to be rescued by others. Normally love Berhaus gear for its quality but these should not be sold as a hiking boot.

Outstanding Performance, 04 August 2011
By Spudy (Hull)
bought these 1 week before Y3P challenge walk, due to last boots failing me, only had chance to complete a 14 mile walk the day before the challenge, I found these boots to be extremely comfortable, they did not need breaking in at all!, my feet where kept dry and more importantly Blister free!! I had no problems with the grip over any of the different terrian, but would have prefered them to be Vibram soles, overall an outstanding boot that did not let me down when I needed them most!!

Lethal and not waterproof, 18 July 2011
By DazW (Newcastle)
I have worn these twice. First time was on a boat while fishing. Ended up slipping all over, literally could not keep my feet. Other people were fine in their cheap wellies so I wasn't happy.
Second time I walked 1 mile from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle along the grass path in heavy rain and when I arrived at the destination my feet were soaking!

I have written to the manufacturers and await there response.

Best boots I've owned so far, 06 July 2011
By Phil (Aldershot)
Have just got back into walking, so thought i'd treat myself to a new pair of boots. Tried on 20 + pairs in the shop ranging from £50 - £200 and I have to say that for me these boots were by far the most comfortable.

Virtually no breaking in was required and I found these boots kepts my feet dry, free from blisters (so far) and felt comfortable all day.

My wife consequently bought the same boots and has loved them as much as me.

Not Enough Grip, 01 July 2011
By Brods (Manchester)
I’m a big Berghaus fan and indeed just purchased some more kit today but I’ve got to say that I was disappointed in these boots. They were not waterproof as advertised(this may well be a fault with this one pair of boots) but the main concern was the grip. I purchased the boots a week ago and whilst using them over the weekend I ended up slipping all over the place on all kinds of surface – grass, stone, tarmac, they just did not have the grip I’m sorry to say. I’ve had many pairs of boots but I have to say this has put me off Berghaus boots. Just swapped them for another brand.

Great boot, 31 May 2011
By Kavsec (Bedford)
I bought a pair of these boots about 1.5 years ago and they are great. So comfortable from the moment i put them on in the shop to today still wearing well and have seen a few hills and mountains. Even wear them to walk to the shops. Just have to be careful on wet rocks around the sea tend to be a bit slippy but would buy another pair when these wear out. Talked my girlfriend into buying a pair and she loves them to, even manage to get her up a mountain now.

Simply superb, 14 May 2011
By Eddy O (Dark side of the moon)
For me, these boots weren't particularly attractive and I tried on many other similarly priced boots without any real satisfaction before eventually and somewhat reluctantly sitting down to put these on. Two minutes later I was at the till handing over the cash, it was that simple.

The following day I inadvertently wound up hiking twenty plus miles first time out in these boots and every step was an assured and comfortable one. They are a joy to be out in and I really can't praise these things highly enough.

Excellent boots, 10 January 2011
By Jimbo (Kirkcaldy)
Bought a pair of these last Spring and have worn them on every expedition to the hills, park or beach since. Chose these as they were suited to my wide feet and high instep. Fitted very well straight out of the box and didn't have any problems with blisters until the last two days of the West Highland Way which is understandable. Starting to fray slightly on the side panel below the laces but the sole is still looking well after a good few hundred miles. Never had any problems with leaks even in deep snow which they are not really designed for. Could do with a bit more grip on wet stones/rock though.

Amazing boots, 30 December 2010
By alan (Horsforth, Leeds)
We have just worn out a pair of these after 5 years and countless miles. They ahve been mavelous. We have loved them so much we have bought the same boots again with the slightly updated lacing system.. We have re-proofed ours once a year whether required or not and never a drop of water has reached our feet. waterproof guaranteed and comfort from day one. We cannot praise these boots enough hence we dont even bother to look at the alternatives. We have tried some but none seem to match the instant comfort and fit. Brilliant boots which are in our opinion unbeatable.

Good boot - watch the grip, 28 December 2010
By Mark (Blackburn)
As other reviewers have said these boots are very comfortable out of the box. I bought them because 3 of our walking group had recently bought them and liked them. However, now we have all had them a while we do find them pretty lethal on the slightest slippy surface (e.g. wet rocks). Berghaus should have spent a little extra and put Vibram soles on these and they would have been boots I would strongly recommend. When I ended up on my bum recently I decided my next pair would be Vibram.

Excellent boot, 09 December 2010
By David (Sheffield)
I was looking to replace my battered, cheap walking shoes. It's the most I've spent on a pair of shoes but glad I did as they've been put through their paces both walking on pathways and also scrambling around. They've also been well tested in the snow this winter and performed brilliant.

Great boots. One of the best buys I've ever made!

Great Shoes, 17 July 2010
By Lewis (Sheffield)
I bought these shoes 8 months ago and they are still going strong!
I bought them just before going on a 6 month trek through Norway. The were put through the elements. Granted they weren't very thermal, but these shoes aren't made for the temperatures over there.
I have since walked the West Highland Way in them and the were in their element.
Recommend these shoes to anyone walking in British style outdoors.

Not Bad But!, 04 May 2010
By RonA (North East)
Have had these boots for about 3 months and have done 700 - 800 Miles in them and admittedly they are not a bad boot but!, Out of the box i had a couple of problems with them digging in around the ankle area. There also doesn't seem to be a lot of cushioning in the sole and i find them to be a bit hard which causes numbness in the heal after 15 0r 20 miles. On the other side they Keep your feet warm and dry and grip very well and the best bit i have never had a blister with them. Overall i am happy with them and they are worth the money and of course you get Berghaus build quality

Great Boots, 30 January 2010
By Kevin Jon (Hoddesdon)
I brought these boots as I was planning to go walking and had set myself the challenge of walking up Mount Snowdon. I trained with these boots for 3 months and at no point have I had any blisters and no sign of wear to the boots. When I did walk up Mount Snowdon I walked in 70 mph winds, biting wind and rain. At all times these boots have been warm, waterproof and so comfortable. These boots are so well priced and give the ultimate in comfort. If there is a better boot on the market for this price then I would be impressed. My next challenge is Ben Nevis and there is only one boot I am going to be walking and training in.

As I have said comfortable, warm, waterproof and so well priced.

Berghaus Explorer GTX Boots, 26 January 2010
By Sandy (East Kilbride)
I got these from my wife as a christmas present. Thankfully she baought them a couple of weeks before christmas when there was an instore offer on of around half price with the discount card.
You may have seen on the TV news that it snowed recently, I think it was mentioned once or twice!
I was told by the lovely Anne that although it was not christmas for anothr two weeks she would let me wear the new boots imediately seing as how she did n't intend going out with the dog in weather like that !
I have not had the boots off my feet for almost 5 weeks ( cept indoors of course) These Berghouse boots are everything they claim to be - comfortable , easy to walk in, good grip and of course completely waterproof.
Simply the best dog walking boots in the world- or anywhere else !
