Tough, durable weather protection in an all-in-one top.

The Paramo Fuera Windproof Smock is ideal for fighting off wind, rain and transfering moisture away from your skin.
Like all Paramo garments, it is designed to work well with other items in their range, for example when worn with their Cambia Base Layer or reversible shirt, it forms a complete layering system for total weather protection and breathability.
A fixed, adjustable hood keeps you dry, whilst articulated arms and elbows mean that your movements won't be restricted and you'll keep covered.

Designed to be light and stowable, whilst the multiple pockets make sure when it's on, it's working hard for you keeping your belongings safe and secure.

  • Reduced flap and weight through contoured fit.
  • Visibility and safety through reflective strip.
  • Complete freedom of movement and total arm flex through articulated arms and elbows.
  • Adjustable cuffs allow precise fit at wrists - can also be pushed up for cooling.
  • Additional cooling option via neck/chest zip.
  • Freedom of movement with short front and scooped tail, with single hand-adjust hem cord.
  • Optional head protection via fixed but adjustable hood.
  • Low bulk
  • Dual access chest pocket, handwarm friendly

This is a purchase which you can make with confidence, the sizing is accurate so buy to your stature. An item which I will replace if needed with the same windproof

Prefect light mid layer jacket, 12 February 2014
    By Mark Houghton (Sheffield)
Bought the Fuera Smock ( in black but personally would have preferred the blue ) as an extra mid-layer for a weeks ice-climbing in Scotland, Feb 2014. This jacket is perfect as a mid-layer. I run hot and wanted something that would work on the approach without overheating me. This smock does the job. I wore only a Reed Transpire base layer fleece and the Fuera smock over it. It kept the wind off and light snow until it was really necessary to put a hardshell on. I was toasty warm inside and never felt cold winds coming through. This really is the best mid-layer i have bought, wish I had got one years ago. The kangaroo pocket was great for stuffing a pair of dry liner gloves, a small drinks bottle and a few snack bars, being chest height the 'contents' provided a bit extra wind protection. The hood was comfortable to wear under and over my helmet depending on the prevailing weather. The only niggle which was mentioned by others is that the velcro tabs on the wrist are just a bit too short when you fasten them on your elbows. When i read that in previous reviews I didnt see the point, but it is useful having baggy sleeves to push up to your elbow on the approach and cinch down, but the velcro didnt quite fasten enough, I will be making that minor adjustment myself. Otherwise a 5* product. Packs up small, dries quickly, keeps the wind off and a bit of weather. Can see me using this mountain biking in the spring / summer rather than taking my paclite now.

My wind proof smock, 20 November 2013
    By Gambo (Longfield)
I am Páramo biased anyway. The smock for me is lightweight, water resistant and does the job of wind proofing nicely. Not being lined, it is better used for layering when the temperature starts to come down. It offers the adjustability that Páramo have throughout it's whole range, for me a formula I like and get on with. An item that will quite happily pack away ready for use in any day pack.

Paramo Fuera smock, 17 November 2013
    By pjs (South Wales)
I bought this to replace a Rab pertex smock that was stolen from my (admitedly unlocked) car. The Rab one was my favorite ever item of outdoor clothing so this one has a lot to live up to though as it seems to be the only medium weight unlined windproof on the market right now (as opposed to ultra light running type or thicker more 'technical' materials) it was the only choice.

Sizing is generous - I originally got an XL (6'2" and 13.5 stone) to allow room for layers but have since swapped for a large. I have long arms and a long back and this shows very slightly now but overall I prefer this to having too baggy a body.

Hood is a decent size and fits comfortable over a climbing helmet (what is with the modern trend of under helmet hoods? I don't want to remove my helmet everytime I decide I'm getting a bit nippy and want the hood up). Despite this it cinches down nice and small when not wearing a helmet with simple adjustments and the spare cord is position so it won't smack you in the face in a strong breeze. There is also a little velcro tab thingy on top of the hood that I have no idea what it is for - maybe I'm just being obtuse.

Material is perhaps a touch on the heavy side - a little more windproof and warmer than my old pertex shell at the expense of being a bit heavier (and perhaps too warm). I suspect it will not be as versatile come the summer (this sounds like a criticism but I do generally run hot and find most Paramo gear a little on the warm side when compared like for like with other brands)

I've not fully made my mind up on the velcro cuffs, they make it easy to push the sleeves up and offer endless adjustment but at the expense of being a little faffy - would also prefered it if they hadn't bothered with the gap in the velcro as it often means the tab is only half secured.

I'm also not a big fan of the single through pocket - I can see me loosing stuff through forgetting one side is open and can't really see any advantages to it. I would also have prefered this to be mesh lined as then simply opening the pockets can significantly increase the venting options (another plus for seperate pockets - one for bits and bobs the other as an extra vent, also seperate pockets would allow a deeper chest zip).

The material and manufacture seem sturdy enough (my wife has had hers significantly longer though she gives it less abuse than I will but it is still looking like new) I also like the reflective piping.

Over all the jacket is a good one, as I say it has a lot to live up to and has lost a star from me as a result but in reality these are mainly personal preferences. Above all a simple windshell is without doubt the most versatile shell for our UK climate. This jacket looks set to prove that albeit it it will probably make a few extra winter routes but will be a little less versatile for those summer days that start hot on a walk in at the base of the hill but are very different in the cloud and wind 2000' higher and moving slower.

Great value windproof!, 19 September 2013
    By boudreaux (cheltenham)
I realised that I needed something far lighter than my waterproof jackets on cooler, slightly damp summer days where I didn't want full waterproofing, just a garment to protect me from the wind & a bit of light rain. I looked at various soft shell jackets but weight, cost & pack size were all issues. I own a fair bit of Paramo kit so I thought that given the price and the claimed functionality of this garment then it looked like a good bet. This is a smock design (the Fuera is also available as a jacket) so it has a single half zip for ventilation. The hood is wired and adjustable and there is a good deal of adjustment with the velcro cuffs. The first thing you notice about it is it is incredibly lightweight and will pack right down when not required. The smock is cut with a scooped tail so can also be used for activities such as cycling & running. One thing to remember with Paramo garments is they are generously sized, it's always best to try on before purchasing as I've found that I need to buy a smaller size than usual. I used this smock extensively during a recent trip to Snowdonia. I found it worked really well in the cooler conditions of early September. Breathability was good and there was a good deal of protection from the wind on the tops. I had to deal with mist on the tops at times and the smock performed extremely well as the droplets of water ran off, BUT and this is a big BUT, this is definitely NOT a waterproof garment. The best I would say is it gives protection against misty rain or a very light shower. If anything more persistent or heavy is encountered then the fabric is quickly saturated and you get wet, but the fabric is so light that it will dry quickly in the wind! This is a great garment for the price and I think it represents really good value for what it does.
