Best Waterproof, 22 November 2016

IMO You cannot beat Paramo clothing. I have this, a Pasco, and a pair of Cascada trousers and they have never let me down.
My Alta is a few years old now but still outperforms GoreTex and Event!
The best way I can describe the system is that a few years ago, a Sunday walk on the moors that started of sunny soon became very very wet. I had my Alta on, one of my friends had a Berghaus GTX jacket and another had a Rab shell on. We all got soaked and were wet when we stopped for lunch.
During lunch I was the only one who kept my jacket on and stayed warm, the other two took theirs off to try and dry out a bit and ended up getting cold. About an hour after lunch the rain stopped and soon after I was dry leaving the other two still wet and cold.
The jackets and trousers are designed so you don't need to take them off, large vents, wide wrist cuffs and popper system allow you to stay comfortable even if the sun comes out.?
Go Goretex, 28 March 2016

Well an update for those who are interested in my first post. after another soggy weekend I have come to the end of any kind of 'relationship' with my paramo as i'm still getting very wet and have absolutely no faith in their waterproof clothing, fortunately due to young kids I am not up too high in the hills otherwise I would have given up well before now. my own personally experience is these are a complete waste of money
Alta II, 20 February 2016

Brought this jacket to replace a 20 year old GoreTex Sprayway. I was impressed with how warm it was compared to my old sprayway, didn't need a fleece jacket most of the time. Nice and long, being 6ft3 its hard to find a jacket that covers your bum so you don't get a draft up your back, but this one certainly does stop those drafts. Hood is very useful as well.
Big complaint though is having owned this jacket for just over a year I am very disappointed in its wet performance. I have ended up wet across the lower chest and inner arms several times now, have sent back to Paramo using their lifetime repair facility, where they have "reproofed" it. however I can already feel the dampness starting again. My old Sprayway got reproofed about 5 times in its whole life, and only let me down at the end of its life, this however if not reproofed regularly and I mean every 4-6 weeks will get you wet. Living in the Lake District this is far from ideal and honestly if this jacket wasn't over a year old I would be taking back for a refund/exchange and replacing with Goretex again.
Common sense efficiency, 06 February 2016

Stand in the rain all day (or watching your kids at footy) and you'll be softly snug, warm and dry. Take it out on the hills in the shedding rain under a rucksack and again, you'll be snug and dry. If you 'run hot', and sweaty, like me, after four or five hours there will be perspiration and damp inside. No more than the same walk without rain. If you sweat, you sweat. This is not a magical item that will thermoregulate your body and draw moisture into non existence. It does its job very efficiently. More efficiently and comfortably than ANY waterproof I've ever owned. The Britsh hills need this kind of jacket at present. Hood is magnificent. Massive, easy access map and compass pockets (not waterproof, deal with it). The arm vents are excellent.
That is all.
Best waterproof jacket I have ever owned, 28 January 2016

I have used Goretex for years, I've tried eVent jackets/trousers but they all leak eventually with seam tape failing or simply wetting out.
The first time I tried my Alta, it poured down most of the day. We walked for about 20km and the jacket did eventually leak, what was different though was when it stopped raining, I started to dry out and by the time we made camp I was dry.
I own two jackets and two trousers now with various tops. I will not buy another type of waterproof ever again.
