A comfortable and stable tent that's great for young families.
Fast and easy to pitch, with two bedrooms that give ample room for five campers, the Outwell Aspen 500 Tent is ideal for families and groups of camping friends.
It boasts a large, easily-lit living space with ample room for a dining table, your camping furniture, bikes or other gear, and it's packed with the usual Outwell innovation and design details that make it a very comfortable place to stay.
- Large windows with toggle-up curtains give an excellent view and let light in, or privacy when you need it
- Full mesh in all doors (side and front) for insect-free ventilation
- Pre-attached and adjustable inner tents make pitching easy
- Fully seam-sealed flysheet protects from the elements and keeps bugs out
- Lamp holder and light cable tidies secure tent lighting and help you avoid tripping
- Organiser pockets let you keep things where you can find them, mesh pockets in the inner tents store small items
- Reinforcement patch on all stress points
- Pre-attached luminous guylines make pitching quicker and keep the tent visible in dim light
You also have a few ways to make your Aspen 500 a more comfortable home-from-home: add the Aspen 500 Carpet for warmth and softness (you can't beat being barefoot in a tent!), use the Aspen 500 Footprint to add extra insulation and durability, and double your relaxation space with the Aspen 500 Extension, which will extend your shelter far beyond the front of your tent.

Bit of a chair going in/out, 18 August 2016
By scooby71 (Glasgow)
Good tent spoiled by poor manufacture. Once erected the front door is almost impossible to use due to poorly stitched squinty panels, so bad in fact that when I did manage to get the door closed it was so tight it pulled the Velcro flap fasteners off, for this reason it was returned and the manager inspected it and said it was pretty bad stitching indeed.
I'm taking the refund and will look at another tent, although I'm likely to be out of pocket big time as I got this in a sale and equivalent tents are now a couple of hundred quid more expensive.
Great tent, 13 August 2016

We bought 5 of these this year to use at the Christian youth festival Newday. Easy to put up and take down.Nice tidy tents that withstood the winds of Norfolk and being used by teenagers. Sleeps 5 comfortably unless u all use air beds or camping beds then it is more for 4. Highly recommend.

Bought this tent as I have had Outwell tents in the past and have been really happy with the quality and the features provided.
I have found the Aspen really easy to put up but it is neat in size for five so my husband and I have had to sleep in the living area, while three have slept in the bedrooms. I would say that it will only sleep up to four in the bedrooms.
The only main problem I have had with this tent is that there is only one window vent at the back so there is a big problem with lack of ventilation if you have the doors shut if it is raining or overnight, to the extent that we have been dropped/ showered on during the night. Spoiling the use of the tent. You need to be sure you will stay dry I'm a tent.

Just returned from our second weekend away in our Aspen.
Before you even attempt to put the tent up buy new pegs as the ones provided by Outwell are cheap. Strong winds are going to rip them straight from the ground.
We (my boyfriend and myself) put the tent up with no problems the first time round, however due to gale force winds the second time round we needed help from the couple in their motorhome next to us.
The three poles are easy to thread through and pin into place. It's a very simple tent to erect.
The front door is a pain! We have had a lot of trouble with zip, we've found that when the tent is pegged out, as soon as you open the front door you can't shut it up again which means you then have to go around every guide rope slacking them off until it will shut again. I thought it might of been us at first but it's quiet refreshing to read in the other reviews that it's not just us having this problem.
I love the Velcro straps on the poles. They make the tent feel a lot sturdier.
We had awful weather whilst camping this weekend, wind and rain. I was hesitant to get out of bed due to the fear of what I was going to see but we had survived the night, no leaks, no broken poles, all pegs firmly in the ground (heavy duty pegs). Really impressed with how well it stood through the night, some other tents on the field hadn't stood up the test of time so well.
Who ever said it was a 5 man tent must have been a man, as my boyfriend thinks it is way too big for the two of us. This tent is my idea of a 2 man!! We have a queen sized blow up bed, which leaves enough room to get changed etc. at the foot of the bed.
If you did split the bedroom into two the partitioning wall is next to useless.
I like the storage compartments in between the bedroom doors. I would prefer a double layered bedroom door. As in, a mesh fly sheet and then a solid sheet. It's okay for us because we don't mind changing in front of one another, but the doors don't allow for much privacy.
The windows are lovely and allow for lots of natural light to come in but there's only one vent at the rear of the tent. The tent becomes a greenhouse in nice weather, we struggled this weekend to regulate the temperate as it was raining so we couldn't open the doors.
The mesh/fly sheet on the front door is brilliant once the rain stopped it allowed for the air to come in but it managed to keep the wind off us.
Although it rained most of the weekend we never felt the damp, I've found in other tents that bedding becomes damp throughout the day but the ground sheet does a really good job.
It takes less than 30 minutes to get down, and even better we have managed to it back into the bag every time! Although I do take the bedroom out each time.
All in all, I love my Outwell tent!

I'm very pleased with this tent overall, but have some minor reservations.
As soon as we had a dry day (remember them?) I decided to pitch the tent in the garden as a trial run. It took me about an hour from unpacking to full setup including all storm guys on my own. absolutely no problems at all. Circumstances meant I had to strike in increasing windy conditions, again on my own and again no problems at all and everything went back in the bag easily.
Wifey and I have just returned from a weeks camping in Dorset and are very happy. Despite heavy rain overnight on one occasion and frequent strong winds we were dry and snug.
Now the cons:
There is no way on earth that this tent will sleep five people in any degree of comfort. There are only two us and conditions were fine but any more would have been a nightmare. The pegs supplied are, as with most makers very basic and worse than useless in windy conditions. After repeatedly repegging I gave up and bought some decent storm pegs. The lack of opening windows can also be a problem when conditions preclude leaving door flaps open. The tent quickly becomes akin to a sauna.
Overall quality is excellent and we're very happy with our purchase. However if there are more than two of you camping this tent is not for you.
