Winter camping conditions may be challenging as snow returns

Those considering the idea of winter camping may be thinking of heading to the countryside of northern England this weekend as the snow returns.

According to the Met Office forecast, the northern part of the country will see heavy rain turn to snow tonight (January 21st).

The Lake District is expected to see blizzards in places, with further snowfall at the weekend.

Such a situation could see brave and hardy adventurers setting out for a winter camp, something that will require warm items of men's outdoor clothing or women's outdoor clothing, as well as good tents, four-season sleeping bags and a camping stove.

The appeal of this type of expedition was highlighted in a feature in the February edition of Trail Magazine.

Reporting on such a camp undertaken in Snowdonia, the magazine noted the importance of having the right equipment to ensure an enjoyable winter adventure can be had.

It advised that those doing this camp low and avoid pitching the tent near a slope where a snow avalanche might occur.
