Those keen to get themselves a bit fitter in 2011 will get a chance to begin as they mean to go on if they are in the Dartmoor area on New Year's Day.
Starting and ending in Postbridge, the ranger-led New Year's Resolution Walk will last for three hours and is described as "a circular brisk but non-strenuous walk to kickstart 2011".
Such an outing could help begin a year of exciting treks, something people can enjoy more if they have all the right clothing and equipment.
While winter jackets
may be important at the start and end of the year, good walking boots
will be essential in most cases, particularly when walking on the hills where the ground may be muddy or marshy in places and ankles can be turned easily.
The Dartmoor National Park Authority runs a number of guided hikes, with these including a four-hour anniversary trek on January 3rd in the Haytor area.
It is being staged to mark the 60th year of its Dartmoor's designation as a national park.
