Former football hard-man Vinnie Jones has been urging people to learn how to use the hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) technique to help revive heart attack victims, rather than the kiss of life.
Such a skill may be valuable for those who like to go walking
, should a member of their party or anyone else they come across suffer such an incident on the hills.
Jones was helping the British Heart Foundation publicise its TV information campaign, which is backed by Resuscitation Council UK.
Those heading for the outdoors may also benefit from having first aid kits in their backpacks
to deal with various major or minor medical emergencies.
While walking can have a highly beneficial effect on cardiovascular health, this does not mean walkers are immune from such eventualities.
One person to die from a heart attack while walking was politician Robin Cook, who collapsed on Ben Stack in the northern Highlands in 2005.
