An attempt due to begin this week to make the first ever run across the Kalahari Desert is to be supported by sock manufacturer Bridgedale.
The Irish firm - some of whose socks are stocked at Go Outdoors stores - has produced the items for adventurer Greg Maud and two friends, who will spend 20 days in the southern African heat attempting to conquer the 1,000 mile challenge.
He is looking to raise money for the charity Cheetah Conservation Botswana.
Bridgedale socks on sale include those that work with walking boots
, including thick hiking socks and thinner liner socks.
Nearer home, Bridgedale is sponsoring the 2010 Puma Lakeland Trails fell runs, with the next race due to take place in Keswick on September 5th.
All places for that event have been booked up, but those in running gear
can take part in the following race in the series by grabbing one of the places left for the 15k at Coniston on October 2nd.
