DJ and author Stuart Maconie has explained how spending time in the Lake District saw him develop a passion for walking.
Speaking to the Westmorland Gazette, the BBC Radio 6 Music presenter said he used to visit Cumbria regularly as a teenager, but only became enamoured with hiking across the countryside in later life.
It was not until Maconie visited Lakeland with his wife many years later that he discovered the hobby.
"I never thought I would wind up a walker, but we walked up Loughrigg and saw the view and I fell completely in love," he revealed. "We became real obsessives."
Maconie now makes the time to go walking
in the Lake District as often as he can, having spent every weekend in the area for the past 15 years.
In this time, he has trekked across the region using the books of Alfred Wainwright as his guide.
Wainwright's seven-volume Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells is viewed as the standard reference point for 214 of the area's fells.
