People who want to put on their walking boots
and climb Snowdon at a time of relative peace and quiet may find this weekend (March 10th and 11th) a good one to do so.
This is because next Saturday (March 17th) is the date when the Snowdon Mountain Railway opens for the 2012 season, with little prospect of any more snow on the mountain.
Initially, trains will only run as far as the Clogwyn Station, but the mountain railway company has said they may begin to the summit station earlier than normal if the weather is mild.
This could mean the highest point in Wales being one that walkers have to share with those who have come up the easy way, but one benefit for those who do find themselves on Snowdon after the service returns is that they can enjoy the mountaintop facilities at the Hafod Eyriri visitor centre attached to the top station.
Walkers on the Llanberis Path will be alongside the railway most of the way and during the summer months, refreshments can also be had at the Halfway House.
