Red walking jackets will be the order of the day on the moors around the Woodhead Pass in the Peak District on May 2nd, when an awareness day will be held for the local mountain rescue team.
Held at Cannon Hill Farm at Cawthorne, near Barnsley, the event will inform the public about the work of the Woodhead Mountain Rescue team and supporters have been urged to don high-visibility red for the occasion, Grough reports.
Chairman of the team John Howe remarked: "At a time when the current government is looking at donations to charities and talking about the Big Society, many people are still amazed that we do not get paid for our efforts."
The event will include demonstrations of first aid, search and rescue work with dogs and orienteering courses, the last of which may be of interest to those turning up with
Ordnance Survey maps.
Recent incidents involving the Woodhead team include a case earlier this month where they joined colleagues from the Glossop and Edale teams to search for a pair of walkers in trouble on Bleaklow.
