Ski conditions in Scotland have been hailed as some of the best in years by the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCS).
In its latest statement on the weather situation, it remarked: "Ski touring conditions have been awesome".
As well as offering some of the most compelling reasons for people to don their ski boots
and get up the mountains in a long time, those hoping to get the climbing gear
out may also enjoy some unusual opportunities.
The MCS added: "many low level ice routes have been climbed for the first time in years".
However, it noted that some popular routes have been cut off by snow and warned that avalanche conditions exist in several areas, particularly the Cairngorms.
It said that those planning to go walking
should check the latest information on these.
The Cairngorm ski resort is reporting that two of its gullys have been closed due to the avalanche risk, but the pistes are all "in great condition".
