Women can gain greatly from both the physical and psychological benefits of outdoor running, an expert has said.
Running4Women.com co-ordinator Joanne Tranter said: "Running outside definitely has its benefits, like boosting your mood and making you feel more invigorated than running indoors. You also burn about five per cent more calories."
Ladies may wish to take this advice on board and invest in come running gear
, not least with Christmas coming and the danger of putting on weight with lots of unhealthy food waiting to be consumed.
Ms Tranter said running shoe technology has become highly developed, while clothing manufacturers are now "extremely good" at making gear capable of keeping moisture away from the skin.
Ladies may wish to also get some thermal base layers
to stay warm when out on cold days.
Recent research by the American Heart Association suggested distance running is better for women than men, with female marathon runners developing fewer coronary plaques than their male colleagues.
