A payphone located in a remote spot in the Cairngorms is to be removed by BT on September 27th.

The phone at Derry Lodge will go because most people now have mobile phones and can get a reception form the area, Braemar Mountain Rescue noted.

As a result, its use has diminished in recent years and the line itself has deteriorated, meaning it is often out of use.

The Mountain Rescue Team has been funding the phone and will now put the cash saved towards other purposes.

People who go walking in the area can access a number of Munros, with the lodge lying near the foot of Derry Cairngorm and other peaks like Beinn Breac, Beinn Macdui and Carn a' Mhaim close by.

Those who make the trek from the nearest pockets of civilisation to the foot of these hills can make their journey much easier by using a mountain bike.

Derry Lodge lies at the end of a forest track from the public road near Mar Lodge.ADNFCR-2803-ID-801452668-ADNFCR
