The Ramblers has given its backing to an initiative aimed at getting more people to take an autumnal hike in their local woods.
It is supporting the Tree Council's Walk in the Woods runs from October 27th to November 4th and has said its walk leaders will be leading over 80 treks around the country during this time, from Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire to Warwickshire's Wyre Forest.
All walks are free and those putting on some walking boots
may also want to invest in some walking trousers
to make sure they are comfortable as they enjoy the seasonal colours and ambience.
One woodland area that could soon become a favourite at any time of year with walkers - and other leisure users like mountain bikers - is the Newborough Forest on the Isle of Anglesey.
The Forestry Commission has just begun work on a project that will establish a number of new walking and cycling routes, which should be completed for Easter 2013.
