People should make more walking their new year's resolution for 2012, the Ramblers has advised.
Head of walking promotions and programmes at the organisation Simon Barnett said: "The best advice the Ramblers can give is to take up walking as your number one resolution in 2012.
"Walking is the healthiest way to start your year. Shake the cobwebs of 2011 and start 2012 on a positive note."
The charity said that while the weather may be cold at this time of year, people can still enjoy the outdoors if they wrap up warmly.Winter jackets
and thermal socks
may be among the items individuals can benefit from investing in.
And specialised equipment like crampons
will be needed for those venturing onto mountains in the snow and ice.
2012 is a significant year for the Ramblers itself as its new chief executive Benedict Southworth will take up the role from February 1st, following the departure of Tom Franklin.
