Outdoor clothing firm Helly Hansen - some of whose products are stocked by Go Outdoors - has revealed it increased its operating revenues in 2009, despite the world economic climate.

The company said it had carried out a number of initiatives to widen its customer base and its order book for autumn 2010 is up 17 per cent year-on-year, with South America and the Nordic countries providing the greatest increases in demand.

Group chief executive Peter Sjolander said: "We're pleased that in a year when many large, well-known brands lost revenue and market share, Helly Hansen stood its ground in terms of sales whilst improving fiscal and operational discipline."

Such results may show that despite the wider economic situation, those who like to head for the outdoors were not cutting back on important items like men's outdoor clothing or women's outdoor clothing, which are among the products Helly Hansen makes.

Go Outdoors stocks base layer items from the company, which are designed to keep people warm as they undertake strenuous outdoor activities.
