Those who like to go walking
in Surrey or Kent may find the new boss of the Ramblers is very much in tune with their concerns as he takes up the post.
Benedict Southworth has just started his work in the post as the replacement for Tom Franklin, who left at the end of 2011.
In a message to members he said that while he was born and brought up in Lancashire, he now lives in Surrey near the Kent border and is very familiar with routes such as the Greensand Way, Vanguard Way and North Downs.
And he will be attending the Kent Rambler's annual general meeting on February 5th.
"As a keen walker myself I hope we will continue to introduce the joys and benefits of walking to the many people who are not aware of the opportunities on their doorstep," Mr Southworth said.
Kent's Ramblers recently celebrated a court victory after a landowner was ordered to take down a fence he had erected to block a public right of way at Capel-le-Ferne, overlooking the English Channel.
