A National Day of Walking has been planned, with the Ramblers keen to encourage as many people as possible to don their hiking boots and get out and about.
The body has joined forces with Walk4Life for a day of mass-participation walks on September 26th, which will be held across the country.
Walkers in the midlands can head to Birmingham for a one-mile stroll around Highbury Park, starting at 11:00 BST.
Ramblers chief executive Tom Franklin said: "Sometimes it's hard to believe that something as simple as walking can make such a profound difference to people's physical - and mental - health but it does."
Those buying walking equipment
at the Go Outdoors store in Wolverhampton might alternatively plan their own walks on some of the hills close to the West Midlands urban area.
Among these are the Lickey hills on the edge of Birmingham, the Clent Hills near Halesowen, Kinver Edge in Staffordshire and the Wrekin in Shrophire.
