Stephen Gough - the so-called Naked Rambler - is back behind bars.

He was given a five-month sentence by Kirkcaldy sheriff James Williamson for his 18th public order offence related to his persistent sporting of a birthday suit, the latest of which saw him arrested in Dunfermline after complaints that he was seen near a children's playground.

That instance had occurred just three days after he was released from jail in Perth.

While Stephen Gough may not feel the cold as much as some, most walkers would prefer to be well-clothed ramblers and with summer turning to autumn now may be a very good time to invest in some warm walking trousers and waterproofs.

The latter piece of equipment may need renewing after a summer that will have tested many coats and other items almost to destruction.

Late last month the Met Office confirmed Britain has had its wettest summer for 100 years, beaten only by the soggy and sorry 1912.
