The majority of climbers like to enjoy the sport both indoors and outdoors, a survey has suggested.
A poll by the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) found 75 per cent of those using indoor walls like to go outside to enjoy the sport as well.
In addition to this, 66 per cent of those putting on their climbing shoes
said they want coaching sessions to be available at indoor walls.
Other findings include widespread desire for more information on climbing al fresco and details of how to join clubs, while it was found most climb once or twice a week.
Such findings may suggest there is potential for further expansion of the sport, which could lead to more climbing ropes being bought.
One form of climbing - bouldering - is about to get a boost with the opening of the first facility dedicated to this branch of the sport in Pontypridd on November 6th, the BMC revealed recently.
