Magazine suggests green plan for getting fit

Those wanting to run or walk more and generally get fitter in 2011 have been offered a green exercise programme by the BBC Country File magazine.

It offers a range of challenges, from simple walks around large public gardens to serious hard-core challenges like boot camps and the 2011 Tough Guy competition, near Wolverhampton.

Such activities could require a new pair of walking boots or some running shoes, with the magazine flagging up the Kielder Marathon as one of the big challenges of the year people could take on.

And those who feel like jumping on mountain bikes are also catered for, as a series of routes in the Lake District are on the list.

People who fancy jogging more may wish to put on their running apparel and join in their local Parkrun.

Held in public parks in over 3,500 locations around Britain, the events involve 5K races held on Saturdays.
