Those who fancy putting on their climbing shoes
and getting out the climbing rope
may find the flat Lincolnshire countryside lacks promise, but the city of Lincoln is about to provide a new local solution.
Run partly by the YMCA in the city, a new £5 million facility known as the Showroom is being created including a world class climbing wall and various other sporting elements, plus a restaurant and conference facilities.
The British Mountaineering Council noted this should be open in early 2011, with the centre currently seeking to recruit a manager.
Across the midlands, those living in the Birmingham area have recently been able to make the most of a new bouldering centre in the city.
Redpoint opened last month and offers over 200 routes, with various different grades to suit people of all abilities.
The only dedicated climbing centre in the West Midlands metropolitan area, [i] t is located on Cecil Street in the city centre.
