Last appeal for Peak opinions

Those who like to go walking or enjoy dangling off a climbing rope in the Peak District may wish to take advantage of one last appeal for views on the proposed blueprint for the national park's future.

A six-week consultation is in progress on the Local Development Framework, a planning strategy to cover the period from 2011 to 2026.

Policy planning manager Brian Taylor called the document a "forward looking" blueprint aimed at adjusting to social and economic change.

"Its central focus is on the original purposes of national parks and the need for open space, contact with nature and an appreciation of our heritage."

Those who enjoy the outdoors may wish to examine the document and express their own views to ensure their interests are not overlooked.

One group that may be happy with developments in the Peak District is the mountain bike fraternity.

The national park authority is arranging a number of activities and events this autumn to encourage those new to the sport to enjoy it and take up regular cycling.
