Friends of the Lake District has revealed details of its planned Fell Care Day for Ennerdale, which will take place on Tuesday October 18th.
The charity recently carried out a similar day on Helvellyn and the aims will include the enhancement of drainage on footpaths in the valley, as well as some tree planting and wildlife conservation activities.
And the day is related to a Dark Skies event, when those wearing outdoor jackets will be able - weather permitting - to see far more stars than people living in towns due to the low levels of light pollution, while being told by experts about the visible features of the cosmos.
Back on Earth, those who like to go walking
in and around Ennerdale may appreciate the work that is taking place on the paths, with the Ennerdale Forest being a popular walking spot.
The valley rises up to popular mountains such as Great Gable, Kirk Fell and Pillar, while youth hostellers may enjoy the peace and isolation of the Black Sail Hut, a converted shepherd's bothy at the top of the valley.
