Those who like a bit of four-legged company when they go walking
in the hills may find the countryside around Keswick a particularly good place to visit.
It has been voted the best town to visit for dog owners in the Kennel Club's Open for Dogs Awards.
The awards recognise the most dog-friendly towns and institutions, offering accommodation, pubs, restaurants and other places where pooches are welcome.
Tourism Officer for Keswick Tourism Association Linda Furniss told the Westmorland Gazette she was "thrilled" by the news.
"Keswick is just such a perfect base to explore the fells, woodland and lakeside walks, with masses of open space to get out for long walks with your dog," she added.
Walkers and their digs who have helped keep each other fit may find they enjoy hiking on fells that can be reached by walking straight from the town, such as Latrigg and Skiddaw, with the latter being England's fourth-highest mountain at 3,054 ft.
