This weekend's Kendal Calling festival (July 29th to 31st) is all set to begin, with organisers revealing there will be entertainment for fans arriving with their tents this Thursday.

"We will be having some light entertainment in the Village Green and the Monstrous Garden to get you eased into the weekend's fun," the festival website said.

The Monstrous Garden is a light and costume show created by the same firm behind the Arcadia at Glastonbury, while the Village Green is a common ground with food outlets where people can meat and eat.

Held north of the town in the Lowther Deer Park, the event's musical line-up includes the likes of Echo and the Bunnymen, the Levellers and Blondie, while also incorporating an ale festival.

And it is not just nice things to drink that fans can consume, as one of this year's features will be the largest piece of Kendal Mint Cake ever made.
