It will not just be running shoes
that play a major part in a Lake District running event taking place this weekend (July 28th -29th).
Jelly babies will also be vital for competitors in the Montane Lakeland 100 and 50 ultra-marathons, with two lorry-loads of the sweet treats being delivered to the course to help runners keep their energy levels up.
While super-fit fell runners will benefit, ordinary walkers can also find sugary treats stored in their backpacks
help them maintain energy levels, with the exertion ensuring no weight is put on.
Runners taking part in the weekend's races will be aided by scores of helpers based at the headquarters in Coniston and checkpoints around the course.
Starting in Coniston, the Montane 100 heads southwards and loops round the Dunnerdale fells before heading westwards round Eskdale, Wasdale and across to Buttermere en route to Keswick.
After this, it heads for Matterdale and then onto Haweswater before completing the loop to Coniston via Kentmere, Ambleside and Elterwater, with thousands of jelly babies being devoured on the way.
