Being equipped in the right way when out walking is essential if people are to stay healthy and get the most out of their hikes, the Ramblers has said.
Spokesperson for the organisation Maria Castellini commented: "When walking, your feet are always key and it's important to have sturdy and supportive footwear suitable for the terrain you're walking on."
Those heading for rocky, steep or boggy ground may regard a good pair of walking boots
as essential for this.
Ms Castellini also said people should take enough layers to stay warm - something that may be helped by having good walking jackets
And eating and drinking well is important too, she noted, as this helps maintain energy levels for long walks.
Those keen to safeguard their health may wish to pick up accessories like suncream and midge repellent to deal with the heat and insects encountered in the summer.
Water purifying tablets may also be useful, as these will enable thirsty walkers to refill bottles from streams without catching any nasty bugs, while also keeping hydrated.
