A pre-Glastonbury storm has brewed over Wimbledon Common's most famous residents after Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis claimed it had been a "mistake" to invite the Wombles to play.
Mr Eavis blamed the booking of Uncle Bulgaria and his clan on a junior stage manager, but some people bringing their camping gear
to the Worthy Farm site may be delighted to hear the band are playing.
Such people could include those who were children in the 1970s when the furry characters had a regular TV show.
People visiting the festival
will be able to make up their own minds and with a wide range of bands playing, there will be opportunities for fans to enjoy the bands they like and avoid the one's they don't.
The Wombles have gained support from Daily Telegraph blogger Mark Mason, who responded to the comments of Mr Eavis by claiming he would rather see the Wombles at Glastonbury than headliners U2.
