Kevin Beck and Stuart Welsh from Ayrshire are setting out to climb Snowdon today (August 27th) as part of their Three Peaks Challenge quest - one that involves not just climbing but also cycling, as they plan to ride 500 miles between the mountains.
"I've done cycling events where you have to cover 60 miles in a day, but this is the first time either of us has done anything as epic as this," Mr Beck admitted.
The pair hope to raise £500 and aim to finish the undertaking with the ascent of Ben Nevis on September 4th.
Another challenge starting today is that of mountaineer Alan Hinkes, who is seeking to climb all 39 historic English county tops in a record short time of eight days.
He will start with Whernside in his native North Yorkshire.
