Those who love to get their walking boots
on even in winter when some thermal socks
are needed as well may be the ideal recipients of an unusual Christmas gift.
Friends of the Lake District posted on its Twitter feed today (November 24th): "An unusual gift for a Lake lover? Restore a metre of eroded footpath in the Lake District for just £99."
This offer is part of the Unwrap the View range on offer from the charity, which it says will help reduce erosion that would "scar" the landscape, spoil the experience for walkers and see more silt washed down into streams, rivers and lakes.
Other gifts in the range include protecting a metre of drystone wall for £48 or funding a team of conservation volunteers for a day for £300.
Recent voluntary efforts involving the charity included a major clear-up of rubbish from footpaths on Helvellyn during a day of action that also included setting up a hide for red squirrels in the woods below the peak.
