The first winter snowfall has hit Britain, with forecasters expecting more this week.
A number of areas in the north of England and Scotland have seen the wintery weather arrive over a cold weekend, covering moors and mountains such as Kinder Scout in the Peak District in snow.
The Met Office forecasts that there will be more of the same in the days ahead, with temperatures plummeting below freezing in some parts.
Such developments may mean now is the perfect occasion to buy men's winter jackets
or women's winter jackets
, while those going walking on the hills may find it a wise move to get a walking GPS
to aid navigation in white-out conditions.
The cold weather may also make it a good time to buy backpacks
to enable flasks of warm liquid and plentiful food to be carried for a cold day out.
Those thinking of going to the Lake District have been urged still to come, despite the recent floods.
Such a plea came from Prince Charles, who joined TV presenter Julia Bradbury for the switch on of Keswick's Christmas lights.
