Those keen to don their ski boots and head for the slopes without leaving England can still go to Allenheads in Northumberland, it has been noted.

In its latest update, the centre said that despite the recent slight thaw there is still plenty of good snow cover to enable wintersports to take place.

The club commented that skiing and boarding "should continue to be good all week" and stated that the cafe and ski tow will be open.

Non-members can become affiliate members, but full membership is no longer available, as this year's quota has been filled.

This will only preclude affiliate members from participating at the weekend, meaning those with a weekday free can still get their ski goggles on.

According to the latest Met Office forecast, there will be snowfall on the hills in the north-east of England over the next few days.
