The English love a good ramble in the countryside, a survey of top national characteristics has revealed.
A poll carried out on behalf of the Wells Bombardier brand of beer found that this was one of the top 50 traits of English people, though the top one was going to the pub.
The findings may come as little surprise to those who like to grab a trekking pole
, put on a rucksack
and head off for a day in the fresh air.
Another of the top pastimes was talking about the weather, which may of course be of concern to those wondering if waterproof jackets
will be the order of the day when the next walk takes place.
The English desire to access the great outdoors helped create the national parks in the last century, following events such as the 1932 great trespass on Kinder Scout in Derbyshire, now part of the Peak District National Park.
