It is never too late to invest in road bikes
and take to the saddle, an expert on the sport has said.
Head of marketing at Cycle Training UK Jean Mowbray said: "Many people are put off because they never learnt to ride as children. Remember that you are never too old to learn to cycle."
She said those who need to find the right bicycle should head to their nearest store and find out what is best for them from the experts.
And for those needing cycling training, this is available from local providers who can be found on the Transport for London website for residents of the capital, while elsewhere they can be found through local councils.
Ms Mowbray recommended training for all, whether beginners or people wanting to improve their skills in commuter traffic.
Last week, the Department for Transport revealed it is making £11 million available for cycle training through its Bikeability programme in the 2011-12 financial year.
